Vulcan Community Meeting - Monday, April 20th, 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the CRC - County Central High School
Posted on April 19th, 2015
In collaboration with several community partners, including Palliser Regional Schools, a decision was made to hold a community forum at the CRC commencing at 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Monday, April 20th.
This community meeting, for PARENT/GUARDIANs only, has multiple purposes:
1) To share information with parents that has been gathered by schools and our community partners. This information is related to the increasing suicidal behaviours, including self-harm talk, suicide attempts and the knowledge that two suicides have taken place in our community in the past few months.
2) To seek information from the most valuable community partners that we have – our parents.
3) We have accessed experts in the field of Trauma Response to provide valuable information to our community. The information relates to being an open system and talking to our youth.
4) Plans are in place to ensure that our community partners and the school district work together with parents, etc. We believe that sharing information and encouraging helpful dialogue between ourselves will help us better support our school and community members who need additional support at this time.
No school can bear all the weight of the loss of students alone, nor should they. The community meeting is a testimony to the commitment of parents, schools and community leaders doing the right things for our children.
